Terms of Service
Effective date: [OWNER TO SUPPLY]
Draft policy version: 2026-10-22-draft-1
Launch draft. Chartorum LLC must replace every highlighted placeholder and obtain appropriate legal review before publication.
1. Agreement and eligibility
Chartorum LLC operates chartorum.com and the Chartorum Service. These Terms govern your use of Chartorum's websites, account workspace, free workspace, AI-assisted discovery tools, downloads, and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account, starting a paid subscription, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and the linked Privacy Policy and Subscription, Cancellation & Refund Policy.
The public free workspace does not require registration. Visitors under 16 may use only that public workspace, subject to applicable privacy requirements. Before registration, Chartorum presents a neutral age-band choice. You must be at least 16 years old and make the current eligibility declaration to create or use a registered Chartorum account. Registered users ages 16 and 17 may use eligible free discovery features.
If a registered user is a minor, a paid subscription must be purchased by an adult who has reached the age of legal majority where they live, or by another person with legally sufficient authority to make the purchase for the user. A minor may not falsely represent that they are an adult purchaser or have purchasing authority. If you use Chartorum for an organization, you confirm that you may bind it.
2. What Chartorum provides
Chartorum is a strategy-driven card-discovery tool. It helps you describe a Magic: The Gathering strategy, review AI-generated candidate cards, and record your own Keep, Maybe, or Pass decisions. Chartorum does not build a complete deck and does not replace current official rules, ban lists, tournament policy, or your own judgment.
The public example and free workspace do not require an account. Eligible verified-email accounts may receive one personalized discovery trial without a payment method. A paid subscription provides access subject to the limits in the Subscription Policy.
3. Accounts and security
Authentication is managed through Clerk. You are responsible for safeguarding your account, using accurate registration information, and notifying us of suspected unauthorized access. Do not share access in a way that defeats account, trial, or usage limits. We may restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect the Service, users, providers, or billing integrity.
4. AI-generated candidates and limitations
Candidate cards, strategy summaries, explanations, and interview responses are generated or assisted by AI. They can be incomplete, incorrect, outdated, or unsuitable for your deck, format, budget, play group, or event. Although Chartorum applies canonical identity and eligibility checks, no automated check is perfect.
Verify card wording, legality, rulings, prices, and tournament requirements independently. Suggestions are a pool of possibilities, not a ranked list or instruction. You decide what belongs in your deck.
5. Your content and permitted processing
You retain your rights in strategy descriptions, interview answers, notes, and other content you submit. You give Chartorum LLC a limited license to host, copy, transmit, and process that content only as needed to operate, secure, support, and improve the Service. This includes sending relevant strategy and card evidence to the configured AI provider to fulfill requests you initiate.
Do not submit confidential, unlawful, abusive, infringing, or personal information that is unnecessary for card discovery. Synthetic or non-personal strategy descriptions are strongly preferred.
6. Acceptable use
You may not evade trial or usage controls; probe or disrupt the Service; access another user's data; automate excessive requests; resell access; reverse engineer protected service components except where law permits; or use Chartorum to violate law or third-party rights. We may refuse or stop unsafe, abusive, ambiguous, or over-budget requests.
7. Local workspace and downloads
The free workspace stores deck names, notes, card selections, and imported deck data in your browser's local storage. Its JSON imports are processed in the browser. You control local deletion through the workspace or browser controls. Clearing browser data can permanently remove this local information.
Recommendation and deck JSON downloads are files on your device. You are responsible for storing, sharing, and deleting them safely. Chartorum cannot revoke or delete copies after download.
8. Paid subscriptions
Subscription checkout and payment management are hosted by Paddle, the merchant of record. Before Chartorum requests a checkout transaction, the person authorizing checkout must affirm the adult-purchaser requirement in Section 1. A payment card or successful payment is not, by itself, proof of age or authority. Prices, recurring billing, included usage, cancellation timing, refunds, and payment disputes are described in the Subscription, Cancellation & Refund Policy. Account access and paid entitlements depend on confirmed billing events received from Paddle.
9. Third-party services
Chartorum relies on third parties including Clerk for authentication, Paddle for billing, OpenAI for AI processing, Cloudflare for static delivery and network protection, Railway for application hosting, and managed PostgreSQL infrastructure. Their services and notices may also apply when you interact with them.
10. Intellectual property and attribution
Chartorum's software, presentation, and original materials are owned by Chartorum LLC or its licensors. You may use Service outputs for personal deck exploration, subject to third-party rights and these Terms.
Chartorum is an independent, unofficial tool. Magic: The Gathering, its card names, rules text, artwork, and related trademarks and materials are property of Wizards of the Coast LLC and other applicable rights holders. Chartorum is not affiliated with, sponsored by, approved by, or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.
Card data is derived from Scryfall. Scryfall is not affiliated with Chartorum. Scryfall and Wizards materials remain subject to their respective terms and rights. Production remains text-only unless Chartorum obtains a lawful artwork basis.
11. Availability, changes, and termination
We may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or a particular number or quality of candidates. We may terminate access for material breach, abuse, legal necessity, or security risk. Subscription cancellation and Service termination are separate actions.
Archiving a discovery only hides it from the active library; it does not delete it. The current release has no self-service Chartorum account or hosted-discovery deletion. See the Privacy Policy for this launch limitation.
12. Disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” to the extent permitted by law. Chartorum LLC disclaims implied warranties that may lawfully be disclaimed, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or liability that cannot legally be limited.
To the extent permitted by law, Chartorum LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, lost data, lost profits, or deck, purchase, or tournament decisions based on the Service. Any final liability cap and required exceptions must be approved by counsel: [OWNER/COUNSEL TO SUPPLY].
13. Governing law and changes to these Terms
Governing law and venue: [OWNER/COUNSEL TO SUPPLY]. Mandatory consumer protections in your location still apply. If we materially change these Terms, we will provide notice as required by applicable law and update the effective date.
